If you live in an apartment and do not have room for your own compost, look to see if your community has a garden where you can take your scraps. If so, store your scraps in bags in the freezer and make periodic runs to the garden. You might see if your neighbors will join in and you all can take turns running the scraps to the garden.
If you use bags in your freezer to store your scraps, consider using natural fabric bags that can be washed instead of using plastic or paper bags. If you opt for the fabric bags, be prepared to drain your scraps well to reduce the mess.
While at the garden, you may ask the staff if they can share soil with you for your home garden or you might see if they have volunteer opportunities for you to lend a hand.
